General Labor

RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL: With supervision and well-defined instructions, assists in the performance of a variety of tasks and minor building maintenance jobs requiring the use of manual and power hand tools. Have the ability to work within and around commercial, industrial, state buildings, grounds, parks, highways, and bridges. Performs a range of laborer assignments while learning the work methods, processes, procedures, and developing knowledge and skills. Complete knowledge of all OSHA and safety procedures. Safety training in Must Safety Programs and Safe 2 Work

Duties

  • Perform non-trade manual labor in a safe and timely period.
  • Cleaning and janitorial duties preformed for commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Hauls and removes garbage, removes concrete, asphalt, dirt, brush etc.
  • Handling and moving of supplies, materials, equipment, or furniture to and from work site.
  • Assists in cleaning, repairing or replacing and painting or refinishing of buildings.
  • Knows the methods used in preparing, applying and finishing various patching and sealant materials.
  • Skill in the use of common hand tools and a variety of power tools and motorized machinery.
  • Skill in performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on power tools and motorized machinery.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to read written direction on use of equipment and materials.
  • Required to perform strenuous tasks requiring strength and coordination.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner following all safety procedures and maintain a clean work area.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards.
  • Must be a team player committed to work in a quality environment.
  • Willingly perform other miscellaneous job related duties as requested, including all general building maintenance and grounds activities.

SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED, or one (1) year of equivalent work experience. Ability to use a wide variety of hand and power tools. Requires working in confining spaces, on a ladder, lifting equipment over six (6) feet above ground, and physical exertion. Must be able to work as needed including various shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Some positions within this classification series are assigned job duties that may require possession of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate as designated state vehicle.
